Default Colorado Toddler Denied Health Insurance For Being Underweight

Companion thread to the "too fat infant" thread...

The parents of a two-year-old girl in Colorado are unable to attain health insurance for their daughter because the insurer, United Healthcare Golden Rule, claims she is too small. In a letter sent to the family of the child, Aislin Bates, United Healthcare Golden Rule writes, "we are unable to provide coverage for Aislin because her height and weight do not meet our company standards." According to a Colorado news station, Aislin weighed six pounds, six ounces at birth, and now weighs 22 pounds.

Yes, I commented on this on your other thread TEX. Again, not enough information, period. I have NO doubt those parents could fight this; but they need to be willing to do the work. Mostly it is about writing letters and getting physician's support etc. Trust me. UHC doesn't want the bad press. Plus need to look into exactly who besides UHC is behind the paramters of the plan. People need real education with this.

But again and again I say, just let a massive national system take control. In order to cover folks, even with raising the daylights out of everyone's taxes, they will have to severely limit coverage. RATIONING as well WIIL not maybe but WILL have to occur. Now, since the market and competition will not longer matter, just see about fighting the government bureacrasy with regarding denials. Any person has a MUCH better chance at fighting and winning with private insurers than they do when the coverage is left to the government, it's control, it's sad system of management, and it's bureaucrasies. Most of the time NO ONE will win in fighting the government payor system. They will drag things out worse than any private insurer and their no will still be no regardless of which doctors go to bat for you.

You don't want all or most or even a modest amount of healthcare coverage control going to the government. Most people will absolutely hate it, and TEX, at the end of the day, when all is said and done and reality kicks in, so will you.
