Welcome to the site. No one can advise you without more information about your mother and about the available resources in your area. Try asking her doctor for some recommendations or referrals to people who can offer you specific advice. Best wishes for your mom.
If your mom is not badly attracted by any disease, then elder home care would be better.
Simon01,
It is you and your family's decision on that one. Think of the pros and cons of both and speak with employees of both home care and nursing homes. Obviously keep your mom's priorities first and see if it would be a good fit for her. Does she have friends in nursing homes? How is the food? Proximity to your house? There are many variables to consider.
Remember there are assisted living facilities available in most communities - My mother just moved into one. She had home care for 2 years after she fell and broke her hip (had surgery for replacement) along w/ meals-on-wheels (thanks to all you guys!) but eventually needed just a little more hands-on. Now my mom has her own apartment, but eats 3 meals a day w/ her neighbors in the common dining room and has help w/ her medications. She is still as independent as circumstances allow and I can sleep at night knowing she is not lying in the floor for 12 hours waiting for someone to help her up (really happened). Good luck to both of you.
Is your 65 yr old Mom ill or somehow incapacitated?
I am a 68 yr old RN who works as a Home Health Nurse.
I live in my own home with 2 cats and 1 Shihtzu.

There are multiple questions to address prior to choosing one or the other, the primary question is: What does your mother want?
Then: Can she live safely at home? How much help does she need? Can she afford a Personal Care Facility? Have you investigated the resources available to help pay for the care she needs? What type(s) of disabilities is she struggling with & can they be safely handled in either environment? ...there are really a lot of questions...keep posting.
65 is a VERY young "old"...

Is you mom in some way disabled? Does she just need help with her ADL's or does she need skilled care? She may benefit from an evaluation from a home care nurse. I care for my 93 year old mom at home, she is post hip fracture and post CVA, gets around in a wheelchair, enjoys her own space in our house, and her three cats (which I also care for). I am 65-years-old, and still work as an RN. Caring for mom is a LOT of work, so just be sure you are up to the task before you undertake it. By the way, you must be very young to think that 65 is "old age"!
ELDER HOME CARE all the way...she's young and still has a ton of life left.
If she's not sick or has a serious health prob, elder home care is the way 2go!!

Absolutely, Elder Home Care. 65 is young today...I am 58 and working after treating for stage 4 cancer even. My own parents lived with me then and we had home health for them here. Now, they are in assisted living, both in their upper 80's. Nursing Home care is Not what it use to be. Assisted Living is used in place of what once was nursing home care fyi. Check with your state, incorporate a social worker if possible with you, your family and your loved one for the best recommendations for your area and circumstances. Also, contact your local Area Agency on Aging. They have a Plethera of information for better quality of life for those 55 and over, most are free services or greatly reduced rates...including legal services and advice. Best of Luck to you in your quest!

Hello Simon....
Maire is so right! Are you asking if putting her in home care would be better or not for her? You should about that with your mom, show to her what's your intention!
The elder home care will be a better option for your mom because 65 is not too old.![]()
I think that the elder care center
Is the best option for your mother where she would be provided
Proper treatment with proper care and u don't have to worry about it because they provide treatment at affordable price...
You explained you question ...plz
