I just made the transition from medical telemetry to surgical progressive care and there is a huge difference in my opinion. Treatments vary greatly. Yes, medical patient are just that, you see a lot of CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, and a lot more chronically ill patients. In my experience, it was all the really old and sick and demented or the young and naive. I love surgical nursing. Usually, and I do say usually, surgical patients get better. They are sick enough to need hospitalization but well enough to withstand surgery. These patients participate more in their treatment plans.
