NCLEX PN study topics!

Hi guys,

I want to share a few of the study topics for those of you who can't make it to our review. Remember studying for NCLEX is a marathon not a sprint, give yourself a minimum 3 weeks. Today the focus is pharmacology.


You must know these things:

Study all the drug classes of antibiotics. Recognize each class (this can be done mostly by endings.) Know side effects specific to each class.
Study all the cardiac meds and their side effects. When to hold, and what to teach after each is given. Ex. Digoxin, Nitroglycerin, beta blockers
Know bronchodialators, steroids used for respiratory disorders.
Know different types of insulin, including oral and teaching associated.
Know meds used for PTSD, depression, manics, anxiety, Schizophrenia is huge on NCLEX know it!
Know anticoagulant meds.
Know different classification of meds used for pain: narcotics, NSAIDS and when giving these medications are contraindicated.
Know how alternative medication therapy is used and contraindicated disease processes for this option.




*This is not a complete list of NCLEX pharmacology but a good place to start. Please don't try to memorize a list of drug names that is the worst possible thing you can do. Know general information about the different classes, this is the stuff that will help you figure out the right answers.

@mynclexexpress: Thank you for sharing this info. I will definitely keep this in mind… I am actually studying for the LVN NCLEX examination. I last took it 02/2012 and I didn’t want to wait too long to re-take the exam again. I didn’t pass on my first try, but I am hoping/praying to pass the second time.
