While there is certainly a lot of training involved in becoming a pediatric nurse, the real question is whether or not a nurse can handle the mental stress of being a pediatric nurse. Because pediatric nurses work exclusively with patients under 18 years old, it can be a challenging job. Working with children that are seriously ill can be extremely difficult. You have to deal with both the patient as well as their parents, which can be heartbreaking. For nurses that are interested in treating children, it is helpful to understand what will be involved.

    hello

And i am pleased that you love small children and also a good decision to do this nursing course.

Paediatric Nursing is a challenging and rewarding career! To explore pediatric nursing as a career choice.
Childcare's nurses work in hospitals, to clinics, doctors offices and other health care institutions for children from birth until last year caring for the young. Children trained nurses to meet the special needs of the children.

    Default Pediatrics specific EMR

The Pediatrics specific EMR includes clinically-defined templates for common Pediatrics complaints, history of present illness and review of systems. The system also includes Pediatrics specific ICD and CPT Codes that are used to capture accurate charges and quickly generate electronic Superbills at the point of care.

    Thanks,

Hi DarkSolitary - Glad you are interested in pediatrics! I love my job as a pediatric nurse. I work on a med/surg unit so I see a little bit of everything. I enjoy working with children (infants thru adolescence) and their families to ensure the best health outcomes. As someone mentioned above, it can also be challenging and emotional at times, but what area of nursing isn't? You also have to be familiar with each developmental stage as this will help you provide the best care for your patients. Creativity is a plus!! I would recommend shadowing a pediatric nurse in a hospital and a clinic to give you the best picture on what a pediatric nurse does. Clinic nursing is different from nursing in a hospital. Your pediatric rotation in nursing school will also help you decide if pediatrics is for you. Let me know if you have any more specific questions. Good luck!

Hi, good to hear that you like to be involve with kids as a nurse, but of course there will always be pros and cons with anything! You must really be patient as unlike with adults, it’s much difficult to explain procedures with children, but definitely, their cases will melt your heart. The more you work with them, the more you will love them...Good luck to you

I have been a pediatric nurse for 20+ years. I think it is like any other type of nursing in that you have to enjoy that area of nursing. Geriatrics or adults.....not for me! Good luck!!
