Hey all! I'm a Pre-Nursing Student and I am interested in Pediatric Nursing. I work great with kids! So anyways, I wanna find out more information about Pediatric Nursing. Hi DarkSolitary - Glad you are interested in pediatrics! I love my job as a pediatric nurse. I work on a med/surg unit so I see a little bit of everything. I enjoy working with children (infants thru adolescence) and their families to ensure the best health outcomes. As someone mentioned above, it can also be challenging and emotional at times, but what area of nursing isn't? You also have to be familiar with each developmental stage as this will help you provide the best care for your patients. Creativity is a plus!! I would recommend shadowing a pediatric nurse in a hospital and a clinic to give you the best picture on what a pediatric nurse does. Clinic nursing is different from nursing in a hospital. Your pediatric rotation in nursing school will also help you decide if pediatrics is for you. Let me know if you have any more specific questions. Good luck!

Hi, good to hear that you like to be involve with kids as a nurse, but of course there will always be pros and cons with anything! You must really be patient as unlike with adults, it’s much difficult to explain procedures with children, but definitely, their cases will melt your heart. I have been a pediatric nurse for 20+ years. I think it is like any other type of nursing in that you have to enjoy that area of nursing. Geriatrics or adults.....not for me! Good luck!!
