Red face What do you look for in a job

I am starting a nurse agency in Illinois and want input on what means the most to nurses when applying for a new position. I have years of experience working at a nurse agency however the nurses my boss choose seemed to care only about the money. I want to attract nurses that care about the patients. I truely appreciate your input and your time. Thank you !

I agree with you. A nurse needs to care about the patient. Money is important but, have worked with nurses that are just in it for the money and they usually lack the compassion that is needed to deal with most patients. A patient needs to feel that you actually are interested in what happens to them and how they feel rather than that distant robotic coolness

You got to look for passion not for experience. Though I don't say completely neglect the experience. A good human being who wants to serve people - see them do better and off course totally skilled should be the ones you should be looking for.

Scrutinize the persona along with the experience.

Your focus is refreshing. Nurses that put patients ahead of money usually want good collaboration with other professionals and the time and resources to give good care. You can also work questions into your interview process that will help you see if you are finding the kind of nurses you want. Open ended questions such as, “How would you handle xxx (and think up an interactively complicated scenario) will help you see who you are hiring before you hire. And then hopefully those nurses will tell other nurses with similar patient-centered focus about your agency. Best wishes with your goals.

Evidently, every nurse must possess genuine empathy towards their patients in order to excel on the job. Therefore, if you do not have compassion and a caring attitude, then you will not go far in your nursing career. Having said that, how can a nurse establish rapport with a patient if you don’t really care about his or her feelings? If you don’t have a caring attitude then your patients will not cooperate with you and your efforts to improve his or her health will not be effective. Undoubtedly, some can fake it and be that nice nurse. However, somehow this facade will break down and rear its ugly head by their sloppy, carelessness, and uncompassionate nature. Needless to say, no amount of empathy and patience can substitute for pure competence and intelligence. Certainly, if patients have their say, they will always choose the most knowledgeable and experienced nurse. No one can deny that, it's not an easy task to gather an ideal group of professionals, however, it can be done. Wishing you the best of luck and success in all of your future endeavors...Aloha~

I love that you want to attract nursing that cares about patients. Money is important, however I have a true passion for nursing. I love to learn new things and study the human body and I am fascinated at how it works and the diseases that plague us. My goal is to make as much suffering seize as possible. I treat an older gentleman how I would want my grandfather to be treated. I treat a child like I would want my child to be treated. To follow this cardinal rule, one has to care about a patient. Caring about a patient includes being knowledgeable, safe, and reliable. I respect what you are doing and wish you the best of luck.

WHAT'S THE NAME OF YOUR AGENCY, WHERE/HOW DO I SIGN UP!? Website? I've been looking for an agency where the nurse is the client/focus; not the facility. This seems to be a major issue with many agency's; local and travel. . . The agency's client is the facility, not the nurse. Check out the fine print in any contract; therein lies the truth. There are always penalties for the nurse who fails to abide by the tenants of a given contract; in most cases, never the facility. . .
