    if you were in my country and that happened, no one will give a **** even if you did not report going out for lunch.i can see now the difference in "strictness" and policies here and there and i think i should watch out if i ever try to work in a different country.

    I firmly believe that as long as women dominate the profession, this foolishness will continue. Way too much estrogen in mix.
    When will we start supporting each other. You would never see physicians behaving this way.

    Maybe she will, but sometimes you've just got to wonder. In general, when men are "catty" with each other, it's limited and short-lived.

    The thing is, you can't make some of these catty females feel better enough about themselves so they stop their nonsense. . .even if you try. Some people can't stand when other people are happy--even when those other people have, at times, walked through hell and back and still ultimately realize that happiness is a choice. I'm not gonna start being bitchy, catty, and miserable just to make them feel better about, well, not feeling better about themselves.

    Wow, what a story. That's tough. I agree that they were likely looking for a reason to get you out, regardless of the exact details of what happened.

    My company makes you punch out for a lunch break. If you are too busy to go it doesnt matter. You are required to punch out for 1/2 hour. I used to punch out then go back to the floor to work then punch back in, but a few times I would not be able to go punch back in and I would get docked pay. So now, I punch out for 1/2 hour every day. I take a lunch, even if that means I have to stay late. I will no longer punch out then go back and work for my lunch break.

    Check with your state nurse practice act, HR and employee handbook for what constitutes abandonment and what policies govern breaks. When you report off in your next position, chart who you give report to (either electronic charting or written). Notify docs who will be covering you. Who was in charge that day? What other staff was working and do you remember eating at the same time as another nurse? Talk to other staff working that day, including aides, etc. If it was 3 weeks later and something happened while you were gone, it takes time to investigate any events so that sounds like they did an investigation into something. Hope this gives you ideas to start.

    This can't be said enough for all nurses new and old; document, document, document. Make sure you chart in each/every patients chart exactly "who" you report off to; using first and last names. That way when your ambushed weeks after the fact, there is documentation of whom you had spoken with. . . A quick entry, free-texted, easy. . . Saves any aggravation and or grief later. . .

    fired for going to lunch?? hmm sounds very harsh man..mean this thing can be neglected sometimes..i dunno if u had a bad history of always goin to lunch in this manner. anyways we should try to follow the rules of the office. professionalism!

    Sorry to hear about your experience, but I agree with PWhite. You really need to make sure that someone covers for you during breaks.
