Default Spencerian College files lawsuit over registered nursing program's probation

    Glad I'm not going there.

    http://www.courier-journal.com/artic...363/1008/rss01

Spencerian College has filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent the Kentucky Board of Nursing from enforcing its decision to place the school’s registered nursing program on probation.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in Jefferson Circuit Court, also seeks to have the board’s ruling reversed and deemed in violation of the Kentucky Constitution and the due process clause of the U.S. Constitution.

The nursing board earlier this month reaffirmed a previous decision to place the school’s registered nursing program on probation after its graduates failed to meet the 85 percent pass rate required on state licensing exams. Spencerian’s rate was 81 percent last year.

The action means students enrolled in the nursing program can continue, but the school can't admit new students until the board evaluates the program again next February.

The college’s attorney, Grover Potts Jr., said a May 4 court hearing has been scheduled.

Spencerian College, located on Dixie Highway, is part of the Sullivan University System

Thumbs up Spencerian college need to be shut down in my opinion

As a former nursing student I would love to share my story in my opinion as how "I see it."
As a single mother of 3 I was so happy to get in the nursing program, I started last June. The program in my opinion is designed to cause you to fail. Please let me explain:

    Mon: anatomy 8am-12pm
    Mon: intro nursing 1-4pm
    Tues:development of care giver 8am-12pm
    Tues: anatomy 1pm 4pm
Wed passport-personal vocational(the dean of the school teaches this class) 10am-12pm.
    Wed intro to nursing-1pm 4pm
    Thursday clinicals,skills practice,care plan nurses notes - 7am 4:30
    Friday math/pharmacology
Now if that isn't enough to keep ya busy...the instructor teach backward from the book so in my opinion that is why most students can't pass because the program is designed to make you fail. I was suppose to graduate in June I was kicked out because the handbook states: any student who fails two classes while in program will be terminated. You can appeal but re-entry is not guaranteed. I have copies of my exams((it showed I should of passed..so the appeal committee took copies of my exam then told me to meet with my instructor, so the next day she meet with me and the points was changed to make it look like I still failed. I have a list of student names that the same thing happen to them. I hired an attorney that told me this school is taking money from hard working people. I could tell you so much more but at this time I can't I would love to sit down with the Kentucky board of nursing and discuss this matter. I believe everything happens for a reason and what comes around goes around.

I also would like to add: you have an exam every week and most of the time your tested on chapters that wasn't covered. When address in class the instructor reply is "I did cover it and u need to use a different method as far as studing goes". Everyone has to make at least a 78% and from my experience as a student at that school this is what I think happens: the over all class scores is adjusted to make students think they are going to fail then half the class will withdraw so on their transcript it will show w and not wf. I really don't know where to go from here..I have mixed emotions I worked so hard paid out 25,000 in student loans and child care fee plus gas etc...the sad part is I am just one of the 100 of students they have done this too.( I don't understand))))
I guess I must practice what I preach, "ALL things work together for the good for those who believe. I guess GOd has another plan for my life.

I am proud to be at Spencerian. I think it is pathetic that former students who could not pass the classes want to blame to the administration. You have to read the books BEFORE you get to class......for example, if on Monday you are to hear a lecture on Chapters 1 and 2, then your supposed to read them before you go on Monday......simple enough. You are not spoon fed the material, because your not in high school anymore. I took the same class load as stated in the previous comment, and I came out with 3 A's and 2 B's. I studied every night, for at least four hours, sometimes more, and I have three kids and a husband who works full time. I want this bad enough to sacrifice for it, and I have and will continue to. For those who enroll and fail two classes, it is stated in the handbook you can ONLY fail TWO classes.......period. If you don't have enough sense to be responsible and accountable for your own actions, then I certainly do not want you as my nurse, and you make the rest of us look terrible. I feel the classes should be harder, if anything, and weed out this whole mess of people who want something for nothing. If you can't read and keep up, then don't apply. McDonald's is hiring everyday.

Well I have to say that I am posting on this forum to make anyone that is going to go to Spencerian College in Louisville, KY in ANY of the nursing programs aware of what it is you're going to be in for! I am currently going there and if, by the sheer grace of God, I get out of there with any dignity at all intact, it will be a blessing. The director of the nursing program is a pompous, out-of-control, ego-maniacal male who I truly believe has borderline personality disorder with a narcisstic complex. He's like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, charging into classrooms, cussing students with every breath, threatening to kick them out of the program if they so much as even deign to disagree with him in any way. He hates anyone who isn't white. If you're gay or overweight, be ready to bear the brunt of his disdain as well. The good news is, if you are thin, blonde (whether naturally or from a bottle), and bat your eyelashes at him and wear a low-cut, tight blouse, you will be shown great favor, especially, according to the many rumors, if you do any favors for him (wink wink!!). My sympathies and condolences go out to his wife! I witness this behavior on a a near-daily basis when I am on campus and he is there. He has a male asssistant director of nursing and a female clinical coordinator who are both literally Gestapo-ish in their actions, following him into the classrooms to reinforce whatever it is that is being said is followed through with and ready to confront you in the event that you even look like you are going to even think about disagreeing with whatever it is that is going down. I am a grown, adult student who returned to school after many years to follow a dream to be a nurse. I really don't have an issue about the program, the curriculum or any of my training, but this madness that I have just described, I will not miss when I finally get out of there. I paid this "institution" too much to be subjected to the abuse that I and fellow classmates and students have endured under the "leadership" of this man and his henchmen. The dean refuses to do anything about him because he just championed their cause to the Kentucky Board of Nursing to get their RN Program back because they lost it in 2010 and getting it back means that there will be even more revenue generated for the college. Right now, this man believes himself to be invincible. I have not at this time made any sort of a formal complaint to anyone becuase I refuse to be targeted by this group and get kicked out of the program and forfeit all of the good, hard work that I have done and all that I have accomplished. There will be a day of reckoning for these people because I will speak out about this, all in good time!! What goes around, comes around, as the old saying goes. They are their own worst enemy. Thanks for letting me vent and I welcome any and all opinions on this subject.
