I hope your sitting down reading this. I, for the past 5 months have been dabbling in primary care. I love it. Another temp position. You know the drill and my numerous posted frustrations with the nursing world of acute bedside care. At this clinic, we have one peds RN and a busy peds clinic. Well naturally the peds RN gets time off, so when she is out, all us (4) adult RN's have to cover for her. I was shaking in my sneakers. I didn't have to escort any little people into the exam rooms- we have techs that do that. I did have to triage and answer the parents questions via phone. Long story short- now, I ( oldntired RN of 30yrs all adult bedside acute care in the nursing world) am being moved to peds. My job was only to be 6 months and now I have been extended another 6 months with the possibilty of it becoming permenant. Who would have ever thought. Me and Peds. The pay is bad.( I have to get another per deim job- maybe home care- not peds though) But I love the job ( the primary care) and my co-workers. I'm scared to death about the peds. So far the parents have not chewed me a new one.( I sound like their mother and grandmother on the phone) Will keep you posted.
