I'm a freshman in college hoping to go into nursing and specialize in pediatric oncology/hematology. I'd love nothing more then to work in a top-notch hospital like St. Jude in Memphis or Children's Memorial in Chicago, but I'm kind of stuck. I have no idea where to start in getting my degree. I know I should get a BSN, but where do I go from there? Do I take special classes, or is there a certain university I could attend? Does anyone have any information that could help me?

Hi Ryann, I'm new to the site, but I saw your post concerning pediatric oncology nursing. I have also been interested in Pediatric oncology and I actually used to live in Memphis. My best friends mother has worked at St. Jude for nearly 20 years and it is an amazing hospital. My advice, from what information that I have been able to gather, is to get a bachelors degree to start with. With oncology being such a specialized field you would either need additional training in oncology or an internship in that department. I know that Penn State has one of the few masters programs in Oncology/pediatric oncology because I looked into it myself. I hope that this helps!
