Hi;
I have been a nurse since 97, I lived in K.C., Mo. In 2004 my hubby decided we should move back home to where he was raised. I thought no problem, I'm an RN. Well, let me tell you big problems! I have been chewed up and eatten alive by people in Washington. Now I hurt my wrist and can't work, this is d/t taking a job were I would be able to support my family and the job being to heavy. I'm presently working on my PMH-NP, but that isn't going to help in the near future. I just can't land a good job around here. I have taken my personality into account and looked at things I could change and figure I am a work in progress. But still no psych. RN job for me. So here I sit, looking for jobs all day long.
Well, that's my story and I am sticking to it.
Hello,
I understand how one feels of being rejected by the nursing career due to an injury. Once a RN or LPN is injured than many nurse managers and nurse supervisors feel a disabled nurse's career is done.
I do not agree to their conclusion and what resources are they using to support their theory?
I can find resources to support my theory disabled nurses can be utilize in the nursing profession. The disabled nurses may have restrictions for their injuries and give them the opportunity to return their profession is some capacity. They are ready to return, made the adaptations and fought through the agony of physical therapy and overcome the emotional pain of becoming injured. Therefore, they have the consents of the appropriate physicians, physical therapists and their body to continue their employment in a different position or the same position with acceptable accommodations.
The decision by the nurse managers, nurse supervisors, nurses and others are hindering the return of these disabled nurses. One may say the ignorance, personal issues and lack of the awareness utilizing disabled nurses in medical facilities by those mentioned in the first sentence of this paragraph. These people are causing hardship and mental anguish upon the disabled nurse by abolishing them from the profession. The disabled nurses were injured by performing their duties as a RN or LPN correctly and why should they be reprimand again and society? Who are they to be the judge and jury to make a verdict upon the disabled nurses?
I believe this is a fine line of several issues that impact the Disabled Nurses and not sure could be a legal issue or not. Do not know …..
A, Underlying discrimination.
Deny employment to the disabled nurse by not being able to meet the accommodations. However, look at the number of disabled employees employ in the medical facilities and their accommodations. Are they receiving any federal refunds for employing disabled individuals?
B. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD may apply to these nurses who are receiving the extreme opposite reception from their peers, nursing profession and nurse professionals. They once belong to a profession who served the communities of various populations and illness as well as treat whole person. This same profession is creating hardship to sustain the essential needs for life such as paying their bills, rent, food, water, clothes, and to their families.
C. Nurses’ Sensitivities Courses
This course would be for all nurses and nurse managers, etc. It would be based on the philosophy of interpersonal Sensitivity Course with additional issues such as disabled nurses, injuries, adaptations, etc. The three main purposes would be the following: 1. To recognize the behavior display is not appropriate and unwarranted 2. To comprehend individual behavior affects another individual or a group of individuals 3. To search and perform acceptable behavior for each occurring circumstance
I was injured on the job twice and had both rotator cuffs operated on. I am being sent to school to get my BSN, and was just cut off of Workmans Comp and I have six weeks of school to do. I have done all I have been told and am on the Dean's list so it is not like I am messing around I am a serious student/person! I am frightened, I have no husband, I am older than 50 and wonder why me often! I am so sad!!

I've notice a lot of case managers for home health care were career nurses.
There are quite a few positions you can do. Have you looked into NICU? There is also legal nursing, telephonic nursing, or case managers.
Who is sending you to school? Are they paying for it too?
