    Dear Friends
I am a RN- BSN, but want to be IV certified , How can I do it.

I have been starting IV lines for years now.

I currently hold RN- NY and NJ licenses.

    Thanks for any information provided.

Welcome to the site. As an RN, you do not need IV certification, as IV administration falls under the RN scope of practice. IV certification classes are provided to LPN/LVNs so they can work with IVs, and to RNs who desire the refresher.

If you want to do advanced IV care and be more competiitive as well as competent I suggest IV certification for all RNs. Go to www.nursecredentialing.org and look for the one that says CRNI (certified registered nurse infusionist). I learned tons studying for that. You can also do smaller ce programs like INS (Intravenous Therapy Nurses,etc)www.ins1.org

    Default IV Certification for LPN

Hi: I am an LPN who is returning to practice after being gone from nursing for 8 years. I am in the midst of a re-entry program in the State of Vermont. I have completed my 80 hours of theory and am in the process of completing my 80 hours of clinical work. However, where I am doing my clinicals (in a long-term care facility) they do not have patients with IVs. I need to be signed off on IV administration, maintenance and discontinuation in the clinical setting (not in the lab setting) . Since I can't complete that portion of it there I need to be IV certified elsewhere. I have been unsuccessful in accomplishing this and I have only 6 weeks left of my temporary license in VT to do this. HELP! The Vermont Board of Nursing will not renew my temporary license so all my hard work will have been a complete waste of time and money.

I am concerned that you are taking a course that does not offer what your state requires. It seems incumbent upon the school to provide you the opportunities you needs. I am also suprised this is a state requirement as most LPN schools do not even cover this in their curriculum. Well, on to solutions: are there any urgent care centers near you. They often allow students to do clinical there and may be open to your situation. Check and see if there are any infusion centers near you. Many are owned and run by individual MDs, like Infection Disease docs. Try the local hospital if they aggreements with them and see if they would allow you to come there jsut for a day or 2 to get those skills in a procedure area where they do a lot like Cath Lab or Endoscopy. You could also call some local Home Health companies that do infusion. Good luck to you.

The seminars offered by Nurse.com are great. The speaker is experinced and knowledgable. With that being said I want to say that there is no hands on in those seminars just lecture and Texas BON rules require that you have education and competency. So, it is a great start but, still need to be competency evaluated by someone. Maybe, your supervisor or an educator or preceptor can provide documentation for you. I think Nurse is offering a great class and think the world of Sue M. the speaker.

    Hi friend

Before attempting iv certified you should be aware for following points:
Before you sign up for an IV training, contact your state regarding certification requirements. Make sure all the programs you are considering these requirements. If you currently have a job, go to the Human Resources or your supervisor to speak with any other conditions you must meet. Also contact your current employer to divide or collection costs for each training that you undergo.
