GI Nurse question

Hi!
I'm relatively new to GI nursing having started around May '07. I really enjoy the work but have a question regarding administering Demerol and Versed for conscious sedation. Does it matter whether you start with Versed before the Demerol to facilitate sedation or start with the Demerol followed by the Versed? This question came up when two of our nurses floated to two different hospitals and they were told to always start with the Versed. No one where I work had ever heard that it makes any difference, including 3 different Dr's that were asked...Just wondering if anyone had heard of this?
