Default RN to BSN online programs.

I have been researching the RN to BSN online programs and they all look very similiar. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with any online programs? I have a Associate degree plus I have taken 2 BSN nursing courses in 2000. Any input would be helpful.

    Thanks.

I am nearly done (Yeah!) and have been going through Graceland University. I have liked their program very much over-all. Sometimes I have been thinking there has been a good deal of "hoop jumping"; but I expect that is with any program. I went RN to BSN; but they now have RN to MSN programs as well. Their site is: gracelandonline.com

I will not start my RN-BSN program until June this year. I, however, through my searching many school via the internet have observed some pre-requities varies more so than the nursing courses themselves. What I hope my program has is a very effective communication line between student and online "classroom" and for students to ask and receive such information from professors.
I must say that I am indeed looking forward to the challenge with distant learning.

I've been happy with University of Wisconsin so far. They do not have on site clinical requirements and no critical care clinical--Graceland did, the last time I looked at them, but that was a long time ago. UW really worked with me during the admissions process and they're very prompt when I have a question. Cost is reasonable compared to the other programs I looked at.

Good to know your experience has been good. I will be with the University of North Alabama.

It would be nice to keep in touch with those who are back in school.

Has anyone thought about Chamberlain College for RN-BSN. I have a BS in another field and was told to go straight to MSN. But then someone said that essentially you are still doing the BSN courses with MSN right after... ugh! Can anyone suggest anything with "meat" in it? ..lol

OH... another thing that popped into my head, an instructor told me that employers look down on online degrees in comparison to someone who actually went to a classroom setting. I thought this was unfair to anyone who thought of doing an online degree; we all have jobs, families and it was a sacrifice enough to get the RN, now I'm forced to still go back to the classroom?

Personally I think maybe at first this might have been true - but online study is so popular and mainstream now. The PHN I worked with told me our course was more intense than anything she had seen before! And I believe that to be true - you have to work twice as hard doing much more research and self-study!

I will say that University of Phoenix was not a good experience for me. Since everything was online, it could be difficult to understand what an instructor was looking for. I went from making A's and B's in courses to failing in a short amount of time d/t this. Make sure that you understand what is required for every course and how you can reach the instructor. If they aren't willing to work with you, don't be afraid to drop the course. 5 week courses are very fast paced and you can sink fast.

Another thing is check out local universities and see if they offer an online program. That is my plan for trying again in the winter/spring semester since one is offered close to my home. I can also drive to the campus if I am in question about something.

Don't go to South University online. They lied about the tuition. Screwed up my student loan. Did not transfer some of my nursing classes. Told me as part of my application fee they would obtain my transcripts, they did not. Now have told me at the last minute the classes I have already take are my responsibility to pay for because they failed to get my transcripts. And, since I cannot get one transcript in ontime, I am not eligble to register for the next semester, as a result of not being able to register next semester my student loan no longer applies to the classes I have already taken The director of admissions hung up on me when I called to complain. I reported them to the BBB. Be careful who you sign up with and read the fine print. They used horrible pressure sales tactics.

I also had problems with South University online. No clear academic plan was given, tech support for Mac users was poor, on hold long periods of time for student support, and I also had problems with the financial department. I had prior plans and needed a summer session off. I had to withdraw and re-apply in order to do this. I withdrew alright and applied to University of Phoenix. I received more credits, have a clear academic plan, and my enrollment advisor has been excellent. UOP will also give you a few weeks off between classes if needed. Much more flexible with classes. My husband just received his doctorate in health management through them and my best friend is almost done with her degree through them as well. UOP does put a large focus on nursing leadership and you work on team assignments. If you do not like working with other students or being a team leader this may not be a program you like. I plan to start next week. I hope this works out better.

I attended UTMB Galveston online program. It was very thorough especially remember that I learned a lot from the Pharmacology course that I felt was practical clinical information.
