Default question about international university of nursing St Kitts

    Hello everyone,
Has anyone attended IUON? If so please let me know anything you know and have learned. We are planning on moving there for my husband to go to school. I'm a nurse already and was wandering if there are any jobs or anything i can do on the island to make some money and pay for the every day expanses.

    thank you,
    veronica

I don't know if you've recieved the information you were looking for, but I worked as a travel RN for a year in St Thomas which is in the US Territories. I worked with a very smart, very capable RN from Dominica (another of those Islands) which is not part of the US or its territories. Because she received her degree in Dominica, she had to repeat the NCLEX before she could work as an RN in the US or its territories. One RN from the BVI, was working as an LPN in the USVI. " I'm not sure of the why-s and wherefore-s". Good luck. They should have a link from their website that lists the accreditations the organization holds.

Sorry, I don't think I answered your question. Check out Island living before you go. Check online newspaper for crime stories, employment, rentals and car prices. Call a realtor who advertises and ask them about unsafe places to live. You might call a hospital department where you'd like to work and ask to speak to their supervisor, she can help with these questions too. I didn't get any help with this type of stuff till I'd been on St Thomas awhile. I just got lucky.
Know that the local people may resent caucasions and/or folks from the states. On St Thomas the rate of poverty and poor education is shameful and the people have had to become scrapers to survive. Whites are frequently targeted for theft, rape and exploitation. There is a language barrier to consider and many dialects on the Islands. The work ethic is facinating! Everything gets done slowly, but somehow it does get done. The hospital where I worked left alot to be desired in the are or housekeeping. A whole lot! The patients' rooms have no running hot water. The volunteers were minimal (they do so much at stateside hospitals). The condition of equipment is appalling!
HIV is rampant!!!!! Carribean men are shameless in their pursuit of as many women as they THINK they can handle!
Don't go if you do not have a financial safety net! If, God forbid, something goes wrong, you are trapped! Really! Extreme poverty, inconsistent education and limited resources.
On the up side, a woman I worked with said there a hundreds of beautiful beaches! Snorkeling in the Carribean is amazing (I only saw 1 shark).
    What is your husband studying?
    Be safe and good luck.

I have limited working experience in the Islands of the Caribbean, and I would take the above report VERY SERIOUSLY!
Visiting is one thing, living and working is quite another thing.

I live on St. Kitts and work at IUON. I've been here almost two years and would happily stay forever. Some of the responses to your post are quite frightening. Like any other place in the world, St. Kitts has some dangers, but people who practice common safety sense don't seem to have a problem.
If you have quesitons about St. Kitts or IUON, I would be glad to answer them. sclark@iuon.net
