fentanyl patch

On another thread there is an article posted about fentanyl patches
which mentions a nurse sending a patient home with 3 fentanyl patches.
How would that have happened? In any hospital I know of, that would
not be allowed, the patient would have to have a script from the doc which
they would get filled elsewhere.

Good question Hiawatha. I don't know the answer. However I can say that we occasionally have the hospital pharmacy fill scripts for some of our indigent patients. Perhaps it happened like that. I am curious as well to know the exact scenario.
