    Default nurses beware

I feel its my duty to let my fellow nurse collegues know where good nurses are located....as well as the evil ones.... I have been working as a travel nurse for about 8 years now.... and ive been to both good and not so good places.....
Well let me tell u about Vassar brothers Hospital.... there are no breaks for the night staff. it seems that "we dont take breaks" well some of us do and are scornfully looked down upon for it.... and we still dont get any breaks.... tonite i had to fight for it as high as the night supervisor and was only alotted 30 of my total 60 mins.......
they are mean and vendictive...and ive only been here for 4 weeks...(i have 4 more to go) and im outta here!!!!!!
happy holiday to all....and God bless

Gal, if your Recruiter is any good, all you have to do is phone her with your problem.
I felt close to the SICU where I was working so when census was down and they told us to float I always took my turn without complaint. One of the nurses was griping that "Travel Nurses should be pulled first". I said, "Susan, I don't know about the other Travelers but my contract says that I can't be pulled or sent home. I have been going because I feel like part of the team, but that could stop pretty darn quick".

Vassar Bros. is a NYSNA represented hospital. If they don't get their breaks and they don't get paid for them, shame on them. Let them keep paying those union dues but not making sure the union is working for them. Some nurses are born to be doormats.

As for you, don't you have a travel contract? Doesn't it allow for breaks? Why wait four more weeks? Tell them you are enforcing the terms of your contract tonight and taking all the breaks you are entitled to. Don't fight-if the nurses won't cover for you call the super, tell her you are giving her report and that she is now responsible for your patients. Tell her if she won't cover you, you will consider it as the hospital breaking your contract-a contract you accepted in good faith. If that doesn't work call your travel company and go where you are appreciated.

    Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!
