I don't have RN tatooed on my forehead but I do have several scars on my hands from being kicked, pinched, squeezed wrong, falling down, getting my hands jammed in a bed etc. The arthritis in my fingers is from CPR and carrying things in non ergonomic ways. You can't be in this business very long without having some kind of physical scars. (never mind the emotional ones) St. Peter will certainly recognize me from those scars.

I graduated in a pinafore for God's sake, but I have to tell you, if the nurses all wear blue scrubs etc., they still won't know the nurses. In Mexico the nurses are still wearing beautiful white uniforms, and they look like saints. Scrubs take away our face, and we all meld together.

i have mixed feelings about this issue, for several reasons.
first, i do feel that our individualism will be compromised if we have to all wear the same solid colored scrub uniform. i work in an oncology infusion center and our patients love our individual scrubs. they can often brighten their long visit with us. our uniforms can be a form of self expresion as well as a great talking point for the patients. we have badges at our facility. (nurses have one that says RN, techs say TECH, etc.) patients do read the badges. i have no problem with a patient getting close to me and checking out my badge. i would far rather them do that than to have to wear a "uniform" scrub. i also have my own scrub business and would really dislike the idea of nurses going "uniform scrubbish"!

I work outpt oncology but we're affiliated with a hospital that requires RNs to wear navy and white. I'm glad. Takes the pressure off trying to figure out what to wear to work and spending $$$ on multi-colored scrubs. I can't stand seeing adults wearing Sponge-Bob scrubs. Sorry, it looks unprofessional.

I'm the same way about "cutesy" scrub tops in med/surg. If you're in Peds its OK, but will some 65 y.o. retired business exec take you seriously when youn are doing discharge teaching if you're wearing "Scooby Doo" scrubs?

Your uniform is a symbol of who you are and what you symbolize to parents that depend on you and look to you for your professionalism. So take your time and pick out the best nursing uniform that is best for you.

I'm transfering jobs and am going from business attire to scrubs. I'm buying the pants with a sewn in crease and nice tops. I'm also having my first name plus RN embroidered on my scrub tops.

I remember wearing white dresses and pant suits in the 80's. The only people that wore scrubs were the specialty units (ICU's ER) and the hospital provided them. I've always been very fussy about how I look. Professionals and retired professionals believe and respect other people who are/look professional.. Some new nurses may not like the idea that a nurse has to look a certain way to be credible but that is just how life rolls.

I get fitted for my nursing school scrubs tomorrow. I don't see why since I'm going to be gone for a year and not in nursing school but they told me to do it anyway. I hope they don't change the uniform by the time I get back to school if I order them.

Several of the Army medical people at meps wore ACU patterned scrubs which were pretty neat.

White is a terrible color to wear in nursing, you get messy and it stains. Dark colors all the way, blues, maroon, ect.

I have to wear navy blue srubs. At first, I was frustrated, but then I found it was much easier to decide on what to wear :-) The RNs are in navy blue, LPNs in royal blue, and, as for the rest of the hospital, each dept. has their own color as well.

At our hospital we do have distinguishing colors RN, LPN, Technician. I work in a chronic dialysis unit and it really helps the new patient to be able to distinguish people. I like it.

You are so right, it makes the early morning decision of what to wear so much easier.

That is the only complaint I have with nurse color that has been chosen by my hospital it is royal blue. I work in chronic dialysis and we use bleach water to clean our machines, chairs. You can imagine what the uniforms look like very quickly. I have thought about re-dying them but haven't yet. It's hard to see them look so awful and yet so new and so expensive.

I would wear some kind of protection over my uniforms if I had to provide it myself. I can't see ruining expensive uniforms.
