A Warning for Americans

We would all like to be more consistent and follow through with what we say. Parents find that challenging to do with a single child much less 11 million people somewhere amongst 300 million. I don't condone illegal immigration or lawlessness of any kind. Our borders need to be secured, period. It is, however, uttlerly impractical, regardless of your views about amnesty, to deport so many. Since deportation isn't a reasonable option we have to find other options. The current bill before congress isn't perfect but it has some decent provisions. It offers a path to citizenship which includes a fine, a waiting period, and ensures that no illegal will become a citizen ahead of anyone already legally on the path to citizenship.

Please tell me why it is impossible to deport them? I keep hearing that and I know of no reason that makes it is impossible.

Reality is what makes it impossible PaulaJo. 11,000,000 human beings. Do you think they will just line up so you can deport them? How much manpower, resources, time, and money are you willing to spend to find, verify status, incarcerate, feed, and transport eleven million people? We don't have enough space to house our violent criminals now. Consider the consequences of singling out the largest minority group(or any ethnic group) for suspicion based solely on their last name, appearance, or language. The potential for civil rights abuses, law suits, racial prejudice, and violence is enormous. Perhaps that is why no one in Congress is suggesting such a ridiculous idea. Effective and realistic problem solving requires thoughtful consideration,planning, and compromise. Simplistic,narrow-minded, and inflexible approaches either fail outright or have unintended and destructive consequences. By all means, follow your principles, but live in the real world. In other words PaulaJo.... IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!!!
