This Michael Moore film has been in development for a long time now. It just premiered at the Cannes film festival with very good reviews. At this point it doesn't matter whether ya like this guy or not, but all I can say is that it took a lot of 'guts' on his part to take on the Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industries in our country. The review I heard today was that the premise of his film is that insurance companies are in the "business" of profit and answerable to their Boards of Directors to do so. Therefore, it is not in their "best interest-financially" to pay for the medical care of their subscribers. The "Powers that be" have already been after him, legally, for having taken workers from the 9/11 aftermath to Cuba where they received the medical care that they needed, which was not available to them in our country without Insurance. Personally...I want this film to be REQUIRED viewing for every voter/person in the USA. American citizens deserve all the health care they NEED given their financial contribution to our government, which in fact, at this point is in collusion with the Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industries. Revolution is in order here.

It took guts? Insurance and pharmaceuticals are that scary?

Michael Moore is even more in the business of profit than insurance companies...his profit margin will entrench him even more into his hypocritical lifestyle, far above what he expects everyone else to live.

MM didn't take them to Cuba because they offer medical care that is not available to these people in the US, he took them there because impressionable people like you would be impressed, and Castro was looking for a media moment; it's the same motivation driving Chavez to finance Danny Glover while Venezualians continue to live in poverty under a DICTATOR. The TRUTH is that the care they received in Cuba is only available to the Castro ELITE in Cuba; if these people were actual Cubans, they wouldn't be able to get this care in Cuba...and if you don't believe it, I suppose you could get on the next refugee boat leaving South Florida for Cuba. There's a reason those boats are heading north.

The only thing I agree with is that American citizens deserve all the health care they need given their financial contribution to the gov't. Some people don't give a dime.

So sad that people are driven to talks of 'revolution' over propoganda.

There was a story in the paper recently about a young boy who could not get a tooth abscess treated because his mother didn't have the money to pay for it, and subsequently, he developed sepsis and died. His hospital bill was over $250,000. This is in America, land of the free and home of the brave. Another example of pennywise and pound foolish, but, since the taxpayers were the ones to foot the bill, not the insurance companies or the pharmaceutical firms, why should they care what it cost us? There are many more people living in poverty here, despite it supposedly being a democracy where everyone is an equal. I agree with pawhite that the health care system(it's really illness care) is run with the investors bottom line being of tantamount importance. I, for one, am looking forward to the film. So MM makes a profit? Isn't that what the health insurance business is doing? Why is his enterprise any different?

Paula you feel about MM the way I feel about Ann Coulter but still I feel it's important to read her viewpoint to look for grains of truth and see the other perspective, as odious to me as it may be,don't you think?

Or maybe everyone here is alot more busy than I am, I do spend a great deal of time reading a wide range things and watching TV.

I think it is important to open our eyes and ears to all sides of current events. I am not a fan of MM, but I would watch his documentary. On the flip side, I also watched the documentary, "Jesus Camp" and was appalled at the events in the film and what I consider to be psychological child abuse. I don't care for extremes but I do think it is important to be aware and informed of all views. How could one form an intelligent opinion without considering all sides of the equation. If Moore's film draws attention to our healthcare crisis, maybe the attention will affect positive change.

    Thank you Mustang Sally!

I heard MM say in an interview that he wants discussion on this issue to begin as the result of his film.

And look...WE are doing it here!

The only MM film I have seen is his first about Detroit. So I really can't say that I am a "fan".

However, on this particular issue which is near and dear to my heart,
I hope he is able to convey to the ordinary people of our country just what they are up against when needing illness care and the economics of why this is so.

I realize that he is inflammatory but for the life of me I don't understand why people "begrudge" him the economic "fruits of his labor".

If he lived in a "double wide" with rusted vehicles and trash in his yard would that make the validity of his presentations more believable?

I believe that we need a lot of work in the drug, insurance and medical fields.

I do not seeing how viewing anything by MM will help that. How can you tell he is lying? His lips are moving.

I have to agree with Insenescence on this one.

I am sure MM can make a film where he can present both sides and be completely non biased just like he did when making Farenheit 911 and Bowling for Columbine.......

Oh I'm sorry my keyboard must be sticking from the dripping sarcasm.......

Where is the requirement that he make a film that is non-biased? He is presenting the facts as he sees them and as I might add, as most nurses see them. Aren't most nurses begging for reform in healthcare? With that in mind, why would nurses not want to view a film that directly challenges the big pharmas and the insurance industry? If you have doubts about the "facts" as he presents them, do the research--discern the truth-- become informed.

I don't need to keep listening to someone who shares my views to validate my opinions. That would be like preaching to the choir. I want someone to challenge me to think out of my comfort zone.

George Bush is a proven liar. So is Bill Clinton. It doesn't mean we should stop listening to either of them.

    ******

    ITA Paula. He's a scumbag.

"why would nurses not want to view a film that directly challenges the big pharmas and the insurance industry?" *** Because he is a lying scumbag that wouldn't know the TRUTH if it bit him in the arse. His brain is so left wing scrambled that he is mentally retarded from his internal bias and brainwashed illusions. I truly think the man is either a paranoid schizophrenic or awesomely great at dupping everyone into believing that he gives a crap about anything. All he cares about is notoriety and money. He's probably the most discusting human being on the planet. I'd be more likely to watch one of bin laden's films over his. ick.

*President* George Bush is NOT a proven liar. Clinton was impeached for lying. Clinton and Michael Moore are of the same ilk. Lying, scheming scumbags.
