Default good movies I have seen.....

Believe it or not, I have actually been to the movies twice in the past month. Shocking since I have not been in almost a year. Saw Fantastic Four and the Rise of the Silver Surfer and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Both very good. Harry Potter was much darker than the previous and my 8 yr old was scared a couple of times. Don't think I will take her to the last two as I have read the books and it will get even darker. The movies are really good but the books are so much better. I am sad to see the end of it all. On another note, everyone has been telling me that Hairspray and Knocked Up are fantastic.

Saw an amiable French comedy called Aprez Vous. Enjoyed Breach. Loved Pan's Labyrinth. We went to the cinema and saw Room 1408 -- or whatever room number it was --- I love John Cusack, but it was a pedestrian effort.

Neither of these is lighthearted entertainment, but both worthy. "La vie en Rose" In French w/subtitles. The life story of Edith Piaf, the French singer. If the actress who played her does not get an Oscar nomination then I will never make it a point to watch the Oscars ever again. Unless one of my kids is nominated. Exquisite performance, from her teens 'til her death. Incredible. "Evening" The movie with lots of well-known actresses. But you need to follow it very closely due to all the flashbacks. Two mother-daughter actress pairs; one pair is also m-d in the movie, the other play the same role 40 yrs apart. We all have secrets, unfulfilled dreams and desires. Harry Potter - - lots of fun Going to see 'Hairspray' this weekend. Hard to not compare John to Divine!!!

"The Story of the Weeping Camel" it's been on the IFC of late - if you like that sort of thing. I did.

I don't get all the hype over Harry Potter. I tried to watch the first movie on PPV-shut it down after 1/2 hour. It was silly and bored me to tears. So I tried to read the book figuring the movie didn't do it justice. Same reaction. But to each their own.

Now I just love the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Johnny Depp is one talented actor and not bad to look at. And Orlando Bloom as Will Turner-oh I could stare at that man for hours! The current one is quite disturbing however and I don't know that it is appropriate for young kids. It disturbed me! But was a good and entertaining movie.

Looking forward to Hairspray. Heard from several people it was great and very funny and that Travolta more than lived up to Divine. We shall see about that-since John is another of my "loves" I don't know how I will like him in this role.

BTW-did we discuss the rumors here that Travolta's son is autistic and they refuse to acknowledge it or get the boy help because of their Scientology beliefs? Sad.

"Notes on a Scandal" is wicked fun. "Last King of Scotland" not as good as I thought but important none the less.
