We lived on Long Island on 9/11 and had many, many funerals at St.Barnabas Catholic church just a block away. Three of those were local young firefighters who went to school with my son. My neighbor who worked for NYFD walked past my house week after week attempting to attend as many funerals as he possibly could muster. His shoulders and gait sunk lower and lower each time we saw him. Then he retired.
I am sure there are many stories and memories to be told.
No, faith, nothing other than to stop and remember the lives lost and innocence destroyed. I tried to watch the NYC commemoration but after a couple of minutes of hearing the roll call of names I turned it off.
As I do everyday, I am flying my American flag. I wasn't going to because of the rain but I decided that on today of all days the flag needed to be waving. I don't understand or always agree with certain aspects of flag etiquette, anyway. As long as I treat the flag respectfully, I think that is the most important.
Ryan-that is such a sad way for your neighbor to end his career. I know many of the rank and file at FDNY who are very disillusioned with the City of NY and 9/11 is one of the reasons.
A dear friend of mine (a nurse)lost her son on 9/11. He was working in the WTC. She finds it very difficult to have the entire thing played on TV. She tends not to attend the ceremonies but honors her son in her own way.
I would imagine it must be very hard to see over and over each year. I hate seeing anything to do with 9/11. Sometimes as I am crossing bridges in NYC I look toward where the Twin Towers stood and I still get a sick feeling when I realize they aren't there.
Even though I clearly remember the skyline before the towers were built there is now something missing every time I look.
And driving past Ground Zero is even worse. I always look to the west so as not to see the hole. And after the Deutsch Bank tragedy, it is even worse. Like the site is cursed.
I stayed home all day, but my thoughts and prayers are with the families, the survivors and the workers, now having to deal with the aftermath of this terrible ordeal such as lung disease.
Thanks for starting this thread Peady, it is hard to believe an 'adult' would stoop to personal digs here, oh well.
Physically, Lakewood, OH; mentally, wherever I wanna be.

I came upon a very strange picture in an apartment I was asked to inspect by my boss (I was working in apt. leasing at the time) for signs that the tenant was leaving. It showed a firefighter, carrying an unconscious little girl in his arms, walking away from the flaming ruins of several buildings in the background. I got a very creepy feeling when I saw it; it was about 3 days before 9/11. It's just one of the images that I wish I could get out of my head.
And I have reported the racist's comments on the thread about Cordova peady and paula jo. It doesn't belong on the same page as the 911 post-it's disgusting. Some of the victims of 911 were probablly immigrants too. Peady-sorry you can't take a joke-thanks to you the moderator will most likely delete this whole thead-happy now?
As I usually do with anything that upsets me, I have tried to stay busy today and ignore the significance of this date. But I find that I can't. I write this with tears in my eyes for the loss our country suffered 6 years ago today. I recall and honor those brave men and women who lost their lives while trying to save the innocent. I pray for the families of those innocents who died. I remember the lives that were lost or forever changed that day, including my own. When you read this please offer a prayer of thanksgiving for this great country and a prayer for remembrance for those who died for her. God bless America.
