I am so frustrated right now. I recently moved home to NH to care for my mother. Applied and was offered a position with the visiting nurses, which is owned and run thru the hospital. In the last year the hospital went LATEX free. Awesome right?? Not for everyone. I am one of those that are allergic to NITRILE.. yup those pretty colored gloves.. I am allergic.. and not just irritatied allergic- full on hives and wheezing. Orientation was supposed to start monday for me. I got a letter in the mail today from EMPLOYEE health saying that I was not longer elegible for employement with the hospital due to my allergy. I called the HR people and was told the same thing. I have been in the medical field for nearly 20 years, and found out about 15 years ago I was allergic to the nitrile. I have never had an issue with any other employer. They are supposed to make reasonable accomadations right? Well I was told by HR that they will not be making any accomadations for me, and that they were sorry, but my job offer was recinded. I am so upset by this. I have actually turned down three other positions because I was under the impression that I had a job already. I just don't know what to do now. I called the other employers, but they have already filled their open positions that I turned down. UGH>>>>. This sucks!!!!
Tsk! Your situation is really frustrating... It's my first time to hear a hospital which turned down a nurse with nitrile allergies! I really hope you can find ways to solve your issue soon!
Sorry, but these things so happen sometimes. I developed a finger rash from a component of my Carhartt scrubs, and they didn't let me work until I sorted it out.
Hi michfr, I wonder what specific component of scrub material is that... so it means it may not be totally safe to wear it, because it potentially causes allergy/rash??
