I am not an RN, nor have any RN training, but I do work in the Laboratory (a whole different world I know) and we have recently started CPOE (a nightmare) and finding issues when trough/peak orders are placed, especially since the Dr never knows the patient's schedule, these are really getting messed up. We are trying to figure out the best way to initiate a new protocol, but really dont want to place more "to do's" on our nurses. The solution, which would work the best, would have the patient's nurse place the lab order when the specimen should be drawn, but then again, they are already overloaded. Any feedback or suggestions? We use Meditech if this helps any. IT and pharmacy are also involved with trying to find a solution.
