Looking for some guidance. Worked active on a med surg floor w/cardiac emphasis for 3+ yrs. Had to relocate to new city & due to spouse's work, became inactive to stay home w/3 young children (childcare costs!!!) Been inactive for 1.5 yrs. now. I know in my state I can be inactive for longer, however, I am concerned with my ability to be attractive for rehire when an opportunity comes up. I have no idea if I were hired tomorrow what 'processing' an institution would put me through, IF they would just throw me back in, etc. I have kept up with my CE's of course but what else can I be doing? I know nursing is supposed to offer alot of flexibility, but I have been unsuccessful in locating alternative opportunities that would allow me to meet the employer's needs and my children's needs (all under 7). I don't have a partner whose schedule would allow any help...it's just how it is. I am ADN trained and short of the often 5 yr requirement I'm hearing is preferred. I've even looked into transitioning to home health type work but would be taking a huge loss on pay & have to use my own vehicle with next to no reimbursement for gas, etc. Does anyone have any experience with some of the issues I've mentioned above? I am frustrated that I've not been able to make my degree work for me in our situation. I really enjoyed my work...Thanks in advance.
