Default not new grad, not re-rntering nurse...

So, my situation is as follows:

I graduated with my BSN in 2009. I took and passed the NCLEX and have kept up with my license and certification. However I did not pursue a job. I got married and traveled with my husband for his work (baseball). It is now almost 2013 and I am ready to begin my nursing career. Since I have no experience, but I am also not a new grad, how do I go about applying to jobs? I looked into refresher courses but they seem to be geared more towards someone who is re-entering nursing and has let their license go. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried to do volunteer work? It may help you gain some experience at least. And you can also brush up on the nursing procedures you were taught in school.

Technically, you could qualify as a new grad and be hired for jobs that are willing to train. It is really a matter of specialty you're looking to break into.

You need to update your skills if you expect to get hired. Take refresher course at your local junior college nursing program.

Have you applied for any jobs? I would imagine you would be treated as a new grad, but try to make some networking. I interned a new grad with a similar situation. He stated volunteering and eventually got a position on the floor he volunteered. Check out nursanity.com for more info
