Default New grad with hepatitis C, will I have issues getting hired?

Hi, I graduate in December with my BSN with a high GPA and honors. I have over 10 years clean but I used to be an injection drug user and acquired hepatitis C. I always follow standard precautions and am safe. Will I be discriminated against in pre-employment physicals? Can I refuse being tested for hep c so they don't know? Will I be ok to use my degree and fulfill my dream to be a nurse?

It will depend on the employer but one of the things that they need is a health certification for a prospective employee. There might be an issue with the hepatitis C, best is that you ask hospitals or medical care facility near you about their stand on that matter so that you will have an idea of the percentage that you will be hired as a nurse.

O.K. I get being your "dream" in being a nurse, but answer me this question...you got into nursing for what? To help people out, right?... Then why are you putting them at risk with your illness? I know, and believe you when you say you are using your PPE's but, accidents can and do happen. If you truely care for your pts as you state (which I don't argue with), you would keep your self away from bedside care, and maybe do something else where you don't have direct contact with pts (teaching/phone consulting/product rep, ect...), for their sake and yours (cause imagine what happens if you did accidently infect someone...?).
