    Default Use of military time

I work in a LTC facility. We still chart manually so handwriting sometimes gets messy. I use military time when charting, filling out reports, etc. I was recently told by several other nurses that our facility does not use military time and that I need to stop doing so. Military time is second nature to me and I feel that it eliminates confusion if handwriting is bad. The DON has not said anything to me about this so I have just continued to chart as I usually do. Has anyone else had to deal with this?

That's bizarre. Does your Board of Nursing have anything to say on the matter? A legal nurse consultant? Seems like not using military time could lead to confusion about when something actually happened. Could be a nightmare defending something in court.

I've never heard of that either, I have always used military time. I would stick with that until you have been told by DON otherwise.
