I am currently almost finished with a masters degree in school counseling. Through doing practicum, through experience substitute teaching, and experience working with the students, I've realized that it is not necessarily a great fit for me. I initially wanted to study nursing during my freshmen year of college, but my adviser warned how difficult it was to be admitted to this university's nursing program, so naive as I was, I just switched my major toward the social services path. My dad encouraged me to go into school counseling, so I did. Whenever I see a nurse, or hear that somebody is studying nursing I have a heart pain, and regret so much that I did not study nursing. I don't enjoy being in the schools, but it's not horrible. I am also facing student loans exceeding 40k at this point.
Ideally, I would like to start a PN program next year, and work toward a BSN while working as a PN (there is a PN-BSN program in the city I live). But I feel stupid to not use the school counseling degree I have spent so much time (6.5 years including undergrad), and money working toward..But it just does not feel right. I would be soooo excited to start nursing school, but I'm not sure if I should.
