    AESTHETIC SURGERY
A dear friend and colleague nurse of mine called me today, to inform me that she is going under the knife for elective surgery. On this level, she came to this decision in lieu of not having any luck for over 1yr. in Georgia, on her search for work after graduating a 1 ½ yrs. ago with her BSN. In addition, she has it in her mind that every time she goes to apply for a position there along with her are the young “perky” as she refers to the younger nurses making her aware of her 52yrs. old. Therefore, she is going to have a complete overhaul, face-lift, neck tighten and removal of sagging neck skin, which she calls her “Turkey neck” which includes Platysmaplasty to remove or alter her neck muscles, breast augmentation, buttock implants, Abdominoplasty (Tummy tuck) , Lipo-suction to her love handles, rhino-plastic, Earlobe reconstruction, Arm reconstruction which she calls her “flapping wings when she waves” Cervicoplasty wherever she needs excess skin removed, plus lip enhancement, and lastly Da Vinci Veneer’s for the smile that she always wanted. In addition, she let me know that after raising her 3 children which are now gone from the nest, and the death of her husband she feels that she owes it to herself. Needless to say, I reminded her of the complications that could occur, which she is aware off. In conclusion, she said “If I’m going to compete with all of these young women that have the same credentials as I do, I’m going all the way & who knows I might meet some rich future hubby in the process”

My question to everyone reading this post, “would you summit yourself under the knife in order to look good enough for a job?”

Advice her FIRST before to go for surgery and spend A LOT of money to do somenthing good and search for a SHRINK appointment! Because her problem is NOT with her body BUT is for sure in her HEAD!.
The GOD is NOT money, but IS YOU OWN, and you are not neither for sell and neither for buy, but YOU ARE!

Irrespective of how one might feel about submitting oneself to the "knife," or the reasons precipitating such a decision; one should be cautious in the approach. Anesthesia/being "under" for any length of time, indeed can have many complications. In having multiple procedures performed at the same time, this can and should also be cause for concern. Yes, in the real world there are many real societal pressures that some individuals may feel, not only in combating the ravages of time and that life does cause; also as reflected in competition for limited positions. . . However, one does need to be very realistic of potential outcome; evaluate all pro's/con's, health status/habits, and psychosocial factors. A lack of exercise, poor eating habits, and stressful lifestyle can all adversely affect things as well. Much to consider. . .and to approach very cautiously. . .

The unfortunate reality, our society is a culture that does indeed worship "youth." This can be a dual edged sword; many psychological and psychosocial pressures to conform and compete. Some many be realistic, others not so much. Real beauty is not necessarily only the superficial; rather that which is unseen, from within. Let your soul shine. . .People who are bitter/angry, that does reflect in everything that they may say and/or do. Cultivate a unique/authentic expression of your soul. One should seek to strive for excellence, not necessarily perfection. The current real benefit of many of the cosmetic/aesthetic procedures available now; they're non-invasive, require no anesthesia, and do not cause lasting nerve damage. I'm all for it if it makes one feel/look better; just don't inject the neuro-paralytics; leaving me with an impassive/unexpressive/wind blown look like that of JoAnn Rivers or Nancy Pelosi. . . ; )

..well it sounds like this is something that she wants to do for herself.....although some money and pain can be saved with a little daily exercise referring the the mid-section that she is having lipo done on...I think that she should do it for herself...only...and not to compete with younger women....because they are younger....and no amount of plastic surgery is going to change that...younger females are younger females...everything on them is younger....it's supposed to be

......personally...I'm in my 40's....and I don't feel the least bit threatened by younger females...at all....when I work out....it just for me....because I like who I am,what I know,believe...and what I see in the mirror....it's not for a man...it's just for me.....it's all about me....if she does the surgery to compete with younger females for a job...what happenes when or if it doesn't turn out the way she expected in a job situation?.....what then?
