    Default Starting Nursing School

    Hello everyone,

My name is Breanna, and in the fall I will be attending a BSN program. I am very excited to start my new journey, but also extremely nervous about the work load and stress that the program brings. I have heard so many amazing things about nursing school, as well as some horrible ones, so I want to try and prepare myself the best I can. Just wondering if anyone would like to share their experience in nursing school to a newbie!

Nursing school is very time consuming! You have to spend many hours studying and doing clinicals. But don't let school take over your life. You still need to have fun every once in a while or else you will go crazy!

    Good luck!

Hi Breanna Good luck and welcome to the "club"! I am a level 2 student, starting my OB/Peds rotation in the Fall. Let me tell you, nursing school is probably almost all of what you heard, but those things heard are based on personal views so they get twisted. Yes, it's a LOT of work and the workload is incredible. If you can, don't work or do so part-time. But basically, NS is what you make it to be. Put everything you have into it and you have a great chance of succeeding.

I'll be happy to help you or answer any questions if you'd like Anytime!

Yes, Nursing is indeed a journey, one that is long, requires consistent hard work, patience (with yourself as well as others you will encounter), and persistence. Completion thereof, provides you with a sense of self satisfaction. . .enjoy all the moments along your path; for you may never experience those exact moments again. Even the seemingly small and insignificant lessons will serve you at some point in the future, at some time. Learn to focus on the immediate, learn that as completely as possible, and don't look at the entire picture in the beginning. . . you won't necessarily see it and it can and will seem overwhelming. . . know in your heart and soul that you will get there eventually. . .This my dear, is only the beginning of your journey. ; )

    Hi Breanna,

Stay very organized from the start! Keep your worksite organized, your schoolwork, and if you can develop a daily plan for your classwork, homework and clinicals, your time will be better spent. Plus it will help you once you become a nurse, time management is very important! And take breaks, have fun when you can, so when you are applying yourself to your studies, you can really focus. And keep your end-goal in sight. You will have your RN degree for the rest of your life!! Best of luck to you!

    Hi Breanna....

Nursing is a rewarding career, there are so many areas that you can work in as a nurse. There are continuous advancements in technology, medicine and the list goes on,who knows where it will take you. About school....the stories, some of them are familiar to me,and you will have experiences of your own to tell before your done. But don't be afraid go in with your eyes wide open.Take it all in,get your routine together and go for it. I'm the type of person that likes to know,so my advice is...read...everything. And don't cut corners when it comes to studying....you will only cheat yourself....and you don't want to do that....The stories on this site, some of them not so nice, but unfortunately are apart of the world of nursing,it's better that you know about some of the things to watchout for.....forewarned is forearmed. You will be through and graduating in no time.....Good Luck!!

    Ps...We are all here

Wish you good luck Breanna for your future. I am attending Great Plains to receive my LPN certification. I began this program very nervous because I did not know what to expect, but once the first week passed I became more comfortable and began to set a pace. My favorite part of school is the hands on experience I get in clinical, where I go to the hospital and get to help out patient instead of just reading about what I will experience as a nurse. I am happy with the chose I made in attending this nursing school, but the only thing I have a problem with is the fact that that are not enough scholarships available for vocational school.

Be organized! You will not be able to have the same social life before nursing school. DO make plans to see your family regularly. Take a yoga class to help you control your stress.

    Hi Breanna,
This is perhaps one of the best decisions that you've ever made in your life. A few years from now, BSN would be a mandatory requirement for all the nurses. Just hang in there and you'll achieve your goals before you know it. Greetings from Florida.
