Question Naval aircrewman looking to become a registered nurse.

Hello everyone! My name is Nick. I have been serving in the Navy for almost six years now, and I am considering going to school to become a registered nurse when my current enlistment is up. Perhaps is best if I let you in on the reasons why I have decided to end my Naval career. First off as an aircrewmen I do not go on deployments like my fellow sailors who are attached to carriers and other ship. I go on missions that can last anywhere from 10-45 days at a time, and over a years time can add up to me being gone almost nine months or more out of the year.
Now that I am married and getting older (32 years young lol). I find myself wanting to settle down somewhere and hopefully start a family. I would love to be able to live in one place for more then three years, go to church every sunday, and wake up everyday to see my beautiful wives face. As much as love seeing the world and serving my country, I find that the MAJORITY people in the military can be very uncompassionate and dont fallow the same moral principles as myself. So, I feel its best to look into changing my career.
I have now started down that path by volunteering in the ER at the local hospital. Which I really enjoy, but find it difficult to find time to do so because I work close to 60 hours a week. I felt that this would also be a great place to find out more information about the field. Thank you for taking the time to read this! I look forward to hearing form you, and here are some things I would like some information on or just let me know what you think.

    1) Are the schools difficult to get into to? (looking to move back to Denver)
    2) How competitive is the job market?
    3) I have two and half years left in the service. What can I do to better prepare myself?
    4) What are the different fields that an RN can work in?
    5) Are there any books or websites that can help me better understand the field?
