i have graduated and received my license in 2009. i am currently working on my bsn. i was only able to get 3 contract jobs. i cannot believe that after all my hard work...and student loans i cannot get a nursing job. i have applied to every hospital/hospice/ltc/clinic in my area (NYC)...to get nothing. everyone is hiring but not hiring if you dont know someone, have at least one year experience or bsn. this is really horrible. i am starting to feel like this was a huge waste of my time and money+interest. what is going on and what else can i do.

deniselanier, I am an experienced nurse who were fired from works and placed on unemployment benefits since 2010. So, I am quite familiar with the kind of despair that you are going through; maybe worse, especially the fact that I have been through job terminations.....although without cause. Have you ever considered doing flu shot? You will usually meet the kindest folks with great sense of humor. This year the flu shot season will start in August and will probably be over in Mid November.
I know it is discouraging, but you are not alone.

The job market stinks that is for sure. I graduated 2009 as well with 21 years of Medic experience behined me and with friends in the ER but it took me going back for my BSN for the oppertunities to start to "trickle" in. I still have not been offered my "dream" job in the ER but it will happen. These highs and lows come in cycles and even though this one may last a while do what you can to get that experience. It may be sub-acute care, home care, urgent care or a medical office. Once your BSN is under your belt you may start seeing more light. But just so you know you are not alone, many of us are experiencing the same frustration. It was not a waiste of time and someday it will pay off. Keep searching the web and use those recruiting services and monster job websites, it may bring you an offer. Good luck
