Hi all. Have started the process of looking for a new RN job after just under 5 years in an inpatient psychiatric hospital. I was terminated 2 weeks ago for an incident that happened on our unit that was beyond my control. My former employer 'threw me under the bus' for what I suspect was 'action taken' in any possible future litigation. I have been left scratching my head wondering if I'm the only one that has been terminated for something that myself or any other RN could not have prevented. By the way I have never been 'written up' or reprimanded in any way and have always taken patient safety very serious. My termination is currently under appeal and waiting to here back but not really sure if I want to go back to psych or not.
My former employer has allowed me to resign. Lose out on state unemployment but I still can say in my applications that I haven't been terminated from a job. I'm still in the process of finding a new job. A co-worker gave me his word's of wisdom- "when one door closes another will open."
