Has anyone had a bs in business and worked in the business world and changed to nursing? I'm looking into an accelerated bsn program. I'm starting my prerequisites this summer. I can't remember the last time I took a science! Any advice would be great.
Hi. I am in your same situation. Received my BS in Management in 1983 and worked in various positions, most recently as a banking center manager. I had the option to do the accelerated BSN, but since I need to work, could not pursue that option. I ended up losing my banking job, which freed up my options. Got a job in a hospital to see if nursing would be a good fit and enrolled at a community college in the RN program. I will be finished by December of this year after many fits and starts. As far as the prereqs, the sciences are not exactly a piece of cake, but they help you train your mind for the "critical thinking" skills you will be developing as a nursing student. My school accepted all my credits, so all I had to take were the sciences and a humanities (I took Spanish).
If you can swing the accelerated program- great! But consider all your options, because nursing school can get pretty stressful and life certainly can get in the way. Whatever you can knock out on line would help you depending on what prereqs you need. Talk to the advisors in your prospective nursing program too. They can give a lot of insight. You will find that your business experience will come in handy as you navigate through the nursing school. Being an adult returning to school will also help you, because that experience will help you be better able to manage your time (very important) and focus on the task at hand- passing nursing school and taking the NCLEX.
It all goes pretty fast once you start. I know you can do it and wish you much success!
I am a clinical coordinator for several clinics in Tenn, Ark, Ms, and Ky. I am seeking an RN for 2 locations on a part time basis. One in Jackson, Tenn to work 2- 3 days, 3 to 4 hr per shift on Mon and Wed (possibly some Fri) that would be responsible for giving injections.
My other need is in Little Rock AR. I need an RN that can work Tue 3-7, Thur 9-1 and Sat 9-1 to pull patients back, get their vitals, weigh and measure them, do EKGS and draw blood. Positive personality a plus. to encourage and motivate patients.
