Scared I won't get into nursing school

I am a pharma rep about to leave industry. I'm going to take all my pre-requisites, ie Anatomy, Chemistry, etc.

I'm afraid after I take the required courses I won't get into school and will have wasted a year of my life on these courses. Any comments?

I do have a Bachelor's degree in Business.

Education is never a waste. I'm betting most of us went through the doubts when we were still in your shoes. I know I did. Keep plugging along and before you know it you will a well seasoned R.N.

I agree education is never a waste, and if you don't you use it right away, you will need somewhere downline.

I think that education can be an excellent investment. Although the nursing field can be pretty competitive, doing excellently – I’m talking all A’s – in your prerequisites can help put you above the curve. One of the options you might want to consider is becoming an RN and then transitioning to a BSN. Linfield College offers a program for RNs to earn their BSN online so that students can still work while in school.

I think that you will definitely be ok. I also did a career change from working in a medical research lab to nursing school, and I feel that as long as you do well in the pre-reqs and show that you will be a good student you will be ok. Most of the post-bac or post-bac MSN nursing school programs don't seem mind the career change as it makes you a more well-rounded person that is more sure about what you want to do with your life.
