This will be somewhat long and I can not go into a ton of detail, so please bear with me.
I am currently in law enforcement and also have had my EMT cert for the past three years. I am also a veteran of both the Marine Corps and Army with combat experience in Iraq. I am considering changing my career to nursing with my major interests at this point leaning toward ED/surgical specialties. Obviously the "Blood and Guts" or heartache portions of the job I have already experienced and they aren't an issue...per say.
Here is the issue however; I recently had, for all intents and purposes a mental breakdown, (due to not getting help after my combat experiences and numerous family tragedies while I was deployed and consistently since returning) which has resulted in my being charged with some crimes. The crimes are a low level felony and two misdemeanors that we are literally in the beginning stages of wading through. Of course there is a chance that I may come away with all charges intact and convicted, but there is also a chance that they may be changed by plea bargain, sentencing considerations, etc. Obviously I have many other issues that I need to address and I have finally begun to do so, not just as a result of my circumstances, but this has made me realize that I too need some help.
Essentially what I am asking is, am I DQ'd for becoming a nurse or would I be able to obtain a certification with what I have listed above? I am thick skinned regarding replies and appreciate honesty, so please don't hesitate to tell me the truth or even your opinion. Thank you in advance for the help.

Hi everyone,

I am kind of in a bind with having to make a decision and was hoping you can direct me/give me guidance.

I’ve recently been thinking about applying to Nursing school, and do not know what the best course to get there is. I am currently a second year at UC Irvine (about to finish my second year).

UC Irvine doesn’t allow me to take the pre-requisites for nursing school without first taking a series of other science courses. I was a Biology major, but recently switched because I was frustrated with working so hard and getting Cs because of the biology department’s strict grading curve policy where only a certain number of students in each class can get A's, B's, C's, etc.

I’m now a Psychology major and I like it, but I feel like I’m wasting my time getting a BA. In order to take the nursing prerequisites, I would still have to take other courses first. At this point I’m thinking about leaving UC Irvine, going to a community college and just taking my pre-reqs there, and then applying to nursing school?

Not quite sure what to do. Is this a smart decision?

I would greatly appreciate any advice you can direct my way!

Thanks,
Amanda

Example: Bed Number Ten (Baier & Schomaker) because it relates the experience of a patient completely at the mercy of healthcare providers, and how much of a difference good attitudes and kind words can make.

I offer one on one NCLEX tutoring for RN and PN/VN. I am a RN with experience tutoring nursing students and new grads. I have worked as a LPN as well, so I can personally attest for what to expect on that exam as well. I worked as an ASN for a few years, and I have recently completed my BSN (GPA 4.0), so I'm well versed on what is happening in nursing education.

I also offer nursing student help in:
-Pharmacology (a trouble spot for many)
-Med-Surg/Adult Health
-Pathophysiology
-Care planning

I will help you think like a nurse, and most importantly help you reach your goals.

I tutor using Skype online. I offer a free 20 minute Skype consult to ensure that I am a fit for your needs.
My rates are $35/hr

I graduated LPN school in 2008- I took NCLEX 3 times and did not pass! I would have taken it again, but at the time I had my both parents pass away and stepfather all in 14 months! So needless to say, I could not have focused if I tried! Then I started to get back in the swing of things and panic set in! On top of that, my husband was laid off from work for almost a year! Basically, I used my families issues to talk myself out of taking it again for fear of failing AGAIN! I found out I cannot take the NCLEX again in Michigan, but I can go through Ohio and there is no expiration on taking the NCLEX. What I am having a hard time with is refocusing and figuring out where to start with studying! I have been out of the classroom for so long, I don't know what or where to start! Any thoughts!!!
