Hello my name is Jennifer and I graduated with my BSN on May 4 and took my NCLEX yesterday... I have never been a good test taker.. High anxiety, easily distracted.. I actually used accommodations during nursing school (private room). Well I was offered a job at a hospital and they want me to start June 17th, so I knew I had to get my test done and passed. I had to drive to a town (Spokane, WA) that is a little over 300 miles each way from where I live, stay the night with the grandparent in-laws, then test and drive home. This location was the only place that had a private testing room available in the time slot I needed. Anyways... I got to 79 questions and the computer shut off... Immediately I wanted to vomit because I was for sure I would be in that test for the long haul. I have done the PVT trick and I am getting the pop-up.... I just wanted to know if you have ever read or heard of anyone getting this good pop up and actually failing....

Thank you,
Jennifer

The job outlook her in IL is pretty bleak without a BSN which is why I am starting that program in Fall. Any tips on how to get an RN hospital Job???

What hospitals in the Midwest offer to provide MALE ONLY staff during operations, and a MALE ONLY nurse after a operation if such post operation...

What hospitals in the Midwest offer to provide MALE ONLY staff during operations, and a MALE ONLY nurse after a operation if such post operation nurse is needed? I am a male and will not be nude in front of female staff members! I will not discuss any problems with female staff members, especially male urology. They can't even provide a male to talk to on the phone.

Most of hospitals in a 250 mile or so radius are are owned or associated with a handful of hospital networks so they operate all the same. My local hospital got bought out by a larger hospital so I can't go there any more as they got rid of all the specialists and simply now refer them to a larger hospital in their network. And how does this specialist handle male urology - he has a female student walk in with him and start asking questions about by private parts. He didn't ask my permission to do this - he was more interested in impressing some young female nursing student than to give a shit about me. Good thing I was not nude otherwise he would been knocked on his ass.

I am NOT a FARM ANIMAL - I am a human being! Do all doctors have this God complex or what?

Hello all. Have a question about how to respond to my little sister. Long story short, she is an RN and last night she sent me a text saying that...

Hello all. Have a question about how to respond to my little sister. Long story short, she is an RN and last night she sent me a text saying that she had a code last night and the video I had shown her with Vinnie Jones showing how to do Hands Only CPR to the tune of Stayin Alive was running through her head. I responded back and asked her how the person was and if they made it ok. She responded "nah, it was awful".

First off can I tell you how proud I am of my sister? Being a nurse is just an amazing thing to me. My day at the office entails a project going well or an idea being launched. Her day is about helping people who really need help and at times saving their lives. I am just in awe of her and what she does every day.

So my question is how do I respond to her comment and what can I say that isn't going to sound hollow and trite or worse, annoying. Saying "I'm sorry I know you did the best you could" just sounds terrible but I can't think of anything else to say. I thought I would find a forum and ask a bunch of nurses to see what you all have to say. What kind of a response would you like to hear?

She is my little sis so I honestly really and truly want to just swoop in and take away everything bad and make everything good but the ability to do that for someone stops about the time that the worst thing in the world can be that you threw your toy out of your crib and someone hands it back to you.

Thank you

(Oh and I'm also in awe of all of you too. Whenever I've been in the hospital or had my husband in the hospital I go out of my way to say thank you to the nurses and follow their orders and generally try to not be the PITA patient/visitor. You all work so hard at what can be, at times, a very sucky job but I'm grateful that you are there and helping us out.)

Hi there, my name is Scott and I'm new to the forum, and am glad I found you guys. I've read a few posts and decided that this was a community that I was going to need if I wanted to further my goals in nursing.

I'm a 39 year old male who's worked in a hospital pharmacy as an unliscensed technician for 13 years. My wage is beginning to stagnate since I'm near the wage cap. My 35 year old wife's job is a factory type job and it's not secure. We have a 15 month old daughter that we're just coming to grips with at being new parents rather later in life.

I've just finnished my first semester of general education at my local tech school, and have been accepted into the RN Associate degree program. I wasn't an exceptional student in high school, but I managed to get a 4.0 GPA so far. I hope it lasts, but the tough classes are beginning to come up on the horizon. I hope to eventually get to a BSN, but sometimes when I think about it too much, I get depressed as it's so far away from where I am right now. I try my hardest to concentrate on what I'm doing instead of looking too far into the future. I'm taking a 9 credit semester workload and am working 40hrs a week at the pharmacy. The hospital is working schedules with me to help me go to school easier, but I fear I may have to go to 32 hours a week for study time and classroom time.

I'm hoping to break a tradition of my families, and that is the lack of an education after high school. Having a daughter that I hope will one day go to college is a motivator also. A higher wage will also help lessen stress over my wifes job's lack of security.

Anyhow so far my study tips have been: Pair up easy classes with classes that require more studying, TURN THE TV OFF when studying. And take notes while you read your chapters (even if it's not a requirement). I must admit that next semester is Chemistry and the one after that is General Anatomy and Physiology, and they have me worried. I have to do well in these classes, as the petitioning process to get into the core nursing classes is competitive. It's not a waiting list. If I go into it with a 2.5GPA, I won't stand a chance.

I'm interested in any study tips from your time in school that helped you get through. I'd be forever greatful. Thanks to everyone on this forum for making this such a sucessful community. I hope to share my knowledge on the board when I get it...LOL

Thanks Everyone,
Scott

My uncle (85) passed away this past February 2013 in a nursing home. One week after his death one of the nursing home activity aids' invited us out to the HM for a memorial on a Sunday. The aid was the only one from the NH who attended. She personally bought some inexpensive snacks for the event.

This particular aid continues to make contact with my aunt (83) who enjoys the special attention. I'm concerned regarding this relationship due to potential elder abuse (financial) etc.

Should this be reported to the NH administrator?
