thinking of moving to Vegas

Rate this Entry
I have lived in Chicago for 30 years. I love the city but I'm so tired of the snow. I keep saying to myself, one day I will move somewhere in the southwest. The reason I am thinking of Vegas is that I have a few friends(not nurses) who have relocated there already and loving it! I have visited them a few times and love the sunny weather.

So, here I am sulking. I appreciate any input. Thanks!

the thinking of moving to Vegas .I am thinking of Vegas is that I have a few friends(not nurses) who have relocated there already and loving it! I have visited them a few times and love the sunny weather.I do Commericial HVAC for a living and know I more than likely wouldn't have a problem finding a job. It's just that I have met people out here that were from Vegas and have heard Pro's and Con's about living there.

Having come to Las Vegas 12 years ago from back East I have to warn you that you will be so sorry. If you have a job in any other state KEEP IT!! Or suffer the consiquences. Las Vegas is a terrible city for nurses. I don't even know where to begin to tell you how awful it is.
Nurses from back east all agree that this is a terrible place for nurses. Ask me questions and I will answer honestly. I really liked being a nurse before I moved here and now I am thinking of going back to school just to get out of it. So much is wrong with the medical system here that I just don't know how to describe it.
It makes me sick to think that I gave up a good job (so did my husband) to move here for the weather (I am origanally from Buffalo, NY) I would take a blizzard any day.
If you like to gamble this is the place for you. If you want a normal life and a good place to raise a family this is the place you would want to avoid like the plague. I have had 3 cars stolen from a real nice neighborhood (Summerlin) in 2 years. I personally know 3 teenagers that were shot and killed in a good neighborhood (no they were not gang members)
Like I said the only thing there is to do here is gamble, shop and eat. There are no amusment parks, no water parks. There is nothing for kids to do here. You also live in the immigrant capital of the world. Transients everywhere. Everyone speaking a foreign language (very annoying)
Scams! I think this is the capital of the world for scams and theives too! Anything goes here to make a buck. To fund either drugs, alcohol or gambling.
I have been working in the biggest hospital in this city and have seen it all. It has been a real eye opener. I just wish I could go back 12 years and have my old life back. And so many of the nurses and people I know feel the same way. I just hope to save others from making my mistake. I am planning to get out of this city. To where I don't know or even care. I am willing to take my chances. Once my son graduates it will be VIVA Las Vegas Out of here!!
If you have any specific questions I will answer to the best of my ability. If you are being recruited by any specific hospitals I have worked at most of them as an agency nurse and could let you know what it is like there.
I do wish you luck though, and hope that whatever you decide you will be happy.
