Nursing Student and Working

Rate this Entry
I am currently a junior in my BSN program. Unfortunately I am in a situation where i have to work and currently work in retail. Recently a nurse aid position has become available in a local hospital and it has been suggested that i apply for the job. I am wondering, how beneficial would working in acute care be concurrent to my education and would they be flexible with my school schedule?

I recognize that all institutions are going to be slightly different, but I am looking for a consensus and any advice. Thank you in advance.

I started my nursing career as a nurses assistant. Some of the best nurses that I have ever worked with started out from assistant and then through the ranks. I personally found that knowing the in and outs of lna and as lpn/Rn was extremely beneficial. It is good to know what every role is, and it reminds you that no matter what each job is, it is for the same reason ---The Patient. LNA'a work extremely hard, and never forget they are our eyes and ears on the floor. They can be the difference between a good outcome vs a very bad outcome. I hope this helps! Goodluck in your nursing career, buckle in as it is going to be a ride!
