Student Nurse

Rate this Entry
Hello all,

I'm a final year nursing student with 4 months before graduation. I feel out of the loop because my colleagues all seem to have a focus. I consider myself a bit of a generalists seeing as I have felt comfortable in every clinical setting I have been placed in thus far. I know that my best qualities would be most useful to the healthcare community in some form of administrative role. am currently seeking more information about community nursing and case management. I'm not quite sure how to approach a career path in hospital administration or administrative nursing. Any suggestions at all are most welcome!

Thank you kindly for your time

    Hi
I would recommend that your first job be in a hospital on a med/surg floor. This will allow you to start practicing nursing and start to see how all the departments work together in a hospital. It will take 6 mos to a year for you to feel comfortable with workload and prefecting your skills. When you interview for your first job, inquire if the hospital will subliment your continuing education, ie Masters. Today, I would advise an MBA. Start your masters as soon as you can. Today most administrative jobs require masters. Also get involved in any hospital committee. I would also join your local Organization of Nurse Executives. Despite the name any nurse can join. This will give you an opportunity to network with other nursing leaders in your community.
