Perioperative Nursing Research

To all my fellow perioperative nurses. I am presently involved in a unique research study on get this blanket warmers. Specifically, I am looking to find out at what temperature you have your blanket warmer set and who was responsible for coming up with that set temperature or do you just set it? Also is your blanket warmer a single or multi-chamber unit. We are looking to find a range of temps that is beneficial to our patients but at the same time safe. There are many arguments out there right now, but I've discovered that JACHO doesn't have any set standards-because they don't recognize blanket warmers as medical devices. ASPAN states that all warmers should be set no higher than 110F. I believe much of the confusion is that this be true for multichamber units where the bottom element is used for blankets and the upper for fluids. How about it colleagues, what are your opinions, remarks, concerns,etc...

We have a blanket warmer in our unit with a top and bottom chamber and both contain blankets. We use the top warmer for our peds patients at the temperature is set at 139F. The bottom warmer is set at 148F and we use for our adult patients. I dont know who set the temperatures or how they decided those would be the temperatures, but it's been that way for years.
