I'm new to this site, but your comments reminded me of an ongoing problem I've been having for quite some time now. Every time I am drug tested using a urine drug screen I test positive for some kind of narcotic. The last three test have turned up positive for OxyContin , which I have not ever taken, did not take before the test, and yet it keeps showing positive on my urine drug test. Of course I demand a blood test each and every time this happens, but I can't figure out what could possibly be the culprit in this situation. I've been a nurse for 27 years now, and this has only recently in the past year been happening to me. I've never had a drug problem, as I said before, I never took any kind of opiate. I am truly stumped over this one. My blood test is always clean, any ideas as to what may be causing this?

You might be reported to the BON or your employer may recommend you to the Health Professionals Services Program (HPSP). Or you can refer yourself. Either way both have long processes that you must follow such as random drug testing. The BON may suspend your license for a period of time. Just talk to your employer, maybe you can come up with a solution that is benefitial for everyone. Good luck my fellow nurse.
